Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
Missing From Somalia ("MFS") is committed to protecting the privacy of all individuals who use our platform, including reporters, families of missing persons, volunteers, and visitors. Voices of the Missing Ltd is a registered Australian not-for-profit company (ACN 701 506 612, ABN 70 701 506 612). It is also a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). The registries and the records they hold are operated under Australian law.
Information We Collect
We collect information that you voluntarily provide when submitting a missing person report (reporter name, email, phone, relationship), registering as an MFS Agent (name, email, location, alert preferences), submitting a tip (optional contact information, sighting details), or volunteering (name, email, skills, availability).
How We Use Your Information
Your information is used to verify and process missing person reports, send alert notifications to registered agents, communicate with you about your submissions, and improve our platform and services.
Information Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. Reporter contact details are never published. Missing person information is published only after review and with reporter consent. We do not act on authority requests on our own initiative: we share a family's case information with an authority only when that family explicitly asks us to and tells us what may be shared, and reporter and tipster identities are never disclosed. Where a case is documented from a family's own public appeal, we publish only what the family has already made public, and the family may ask us to correct or remove it at any time.
Services that help us
We use a small number of trusted service providers to run this service, including secure hosting, email delivery and automated language tools that help our team with translation and with preparing reports. They receive only what each task needs, over an encrypted connection, and they may not use it for their own purposes. Some are based outside Australia, including in the United States. A member of our team checks every case before anything is published.
You can report a missing person, give a tip, leave us a message or sign up for alerts on our WhatsApp number. WhatsApp is run by Meta: what you send passes through Meta’s WhatsApp Business service on its way to us, and Meta’s own privacy policy applies to that part. We keep your messages, photos, voice notes, WhatsApp number and profile name in our secure system, seen only by our team, the same way as reports made on this website, and we never publish your number. Our WhatsApp assistant helps you tell us about your missing family member, at any time of day. A person from our team reads every report, and nothing is published without your consent. If you sign up for alerts, we use your number only to tell you about new cases in the areas you chose: send STOP at any time to end them. To have your conversation or details deleted, contact us.
Data Security
We implement appropriate security measures to protect your personal information, including encrypted data transmission, secure database storage, and restricted access to personal data.
Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information. To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected].
